We were asked in 1999 to design this single family house in Cologne, Germany. The clients asked for an “open” house to enjoy the nature and view, yet at the same time they wanted their privacy. They demanded also that the house should have it’s own character while it is integrated into the context.

embedded individualism

This context consisted of the attached neighbouring houses and of a sloping terrain, falling from the rear side down towards the front side with the street. Other demands were to stay within the budget of a typical single family house and to have a pitched roof as stated in the building law.
