Arch+ Legislating Architecture

here the article I wrote with Kai Vöckler about our work with Archis Interventions in Prishtina. The article came out in Arch+ „Legislating Architecture”, an issue about regulations on architecture und regulations by architecture. We have addressed the second point and described how the informal buildings in Prishina have lead to new regulations through the legalization process we have initiated, design and organized with Archis Interventions.

Finalist / European Prize for Urban Public Space

Our project "Magic Blocks" has been chosen as finalist for the seventh  European Prize for Urban Public Space. The prize is given as part of a biennial competition organized by six European institutions with the aim to recognize and encourage the recovery projects and defense of public space in our cities.
Magic Blocks is a participative program of initiatives aimed at fostering reflection and activities with a view to transforming dull fragmentary interstitial spaces between socialist housing blocks in the city centre.

Magic Blocks is a collaboration of Point 4, Zeppelin, Archis Interventions, Hackenbroich Architekten, StudioBASAR, developed by Institutul Cultural Roman - Programul Cantemir, ERSTE Stiftung

Lecture / Use What You Have / Urban Strategies

Wilfried Hackenbroich will give a lecture at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal in the lecture series  “Making of…”: The lecture “Use What You Have - Urbanism of Opportunities” will show urban strategies based on the urban research with the Bauhaus Dessau as well as realized and speculative projects done by our office.

Publication in l'Architecture d'Aujourd'hui / Bata Cities

The publication describes the results of the research program “Bauhaus Kolleg XII Urban Footprints Bata Cities” which has investigated the Bata Cities. Bata has built more then 80 modernist cities throughout the world, following a sophisticated urban and social system. The research was undertaken in the urban studies program “Bauhaus Kolleg XII Urban Footprints Bata Cities”  at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation. The program was conceived and conducted by Regina Bittner, Wilfried Hackenbroich and Stefan Rettich.

The Good Cause: Architecture of Peace / Canadian Center for Architecture

Our project for the legalization in Prishtina has been part of the Exhibition “The Good Cause: Architecture of Peace” in the Canadian Center for Architecture. The exhibition was organized by the  Nederlands Architectuurinstituut (NAI), Archis and the CCA, it was curated by Arjen Oosterman, Saskia van Stein and Lilet Breddels.

Arch+ 203 / CIAM Urbanism in Singapur

June 2011

For the Arch+ issue about large scale hosting of the 70ties Regina Bittner, Wilfried Hackenbroich and Stefan Rettich contributed an article about the housing system in Singapore. While the European social housing system has cause severe social and urban problems, the housings system in Singapore has been constantly improved and developed. Today it has become a role model for (social) housing. The article is based on the results of the urban research program “Bauhaus Kolleg X - Cities of Tomorrow / CIAM Urbanism”. The program has been conceived and conducted by Regina Bittner, Wilfried Hackenbroich and Stefan Rettich at the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation.

Unser Projekt zur Legalisierung in Prishtina ist Teil der Ausstellung “Insiders” im CAPC Musée d’art contemporain in Bordeaux, welche vom arc en rêve in Bordeaux organisiert wurde. Das Ziel der Ausstellung wurde wie folgt definiert: “Insiders responds to current world social and economic issues and models of global culture by exploring new and singular dynamics of exchange and organization that bear the potential for new collective values.”
